Study In Norway 2024



The students, who want to complete their education in Norway universities, they can seek admission for undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Norwegian universities and university colleges. The students check GSU-list for getting complete information of additional requirement and the necessary education to get admission in required class or course. Most of the higher education institutes are state run. Generally, tuition is not required for getting study at higher education institutes Norway but for certain professional education programs, fee may be obtained from the students. The higher learning institutes and universities are responsible to conduct the basic research, researcher training at the graduate level studies and the doctoral degree programs.




The courses in the universities are measured in ‘Studiepoeng’ and the full time workload for one academic year is about 60 ‘studiepoeng’ or ECTS credits. In most of the universities and university colleges do not pay tuition fee for undergraduate, master degree and PhD programs. The students will have to pay the semester fee of NOK 300-600 each semester. The candidates will have to pay the fee in full to appear in exams. This fee grants you the membership in local student welfare organization and they can get various benefits including campus health services, counseling, cultural activities and access to sports facilities. The foreign students also do not pay tuition fee on various bachelor or master degree programs.

Transfer credits & degrees

The international recognitions unit at NOKUT deals with applications for general recognition of the foreign qualification and it awards the number of general ECTS credits. Higher education institutions decide that the foreign qualification is equivalent to degree, part of degree or other qualification awarded by the concerned institute. The diploma supplement is international document to give detail of description of qualification, which the students attained. It has standard layout and divided into 8 sections. The DS is the integral part of electronic student registration systems at Norwegian higher education institutions and FS is common Student Registration System and MSTAS.

Student life

All educational institutes have student welfare organization and they offer variety of services including organization of nursery schools, counseling, mental health services, canteens, students residence and sports facilities or cultural activities. If you are full time student, then you are not allowed to work. If you are granted study permit then you are permitted to work part time for 20 hours per week with your studies and full time during the holidays.

Student residence permit

The students have to pay the processing fee for each application to get admission and the application form is completed by the students with the passport photograph. The student residence permit to Norway is given under precondition that student will return his / her country of legal permanent residence, when their education will be completed.

Health insurance

If you are registered in national population register in Norway, then you are member of Norwegian national insurance scheme. If the students hail from European economic area, they do not become member of Norwegian national insurance scheme but they are entitled for emergency and necessary treatment under Norwegian legislation. If the students belong to outside European economic area and their stay in Norway is over one year, they become insured under National Insurance Scheme.

Scholarship

Most of the Norwegian institutes have signed their bilateral agreements with the foreign institutes of the higher education. They exchange students, researchers and teachers. They also offer scholarships and various funding for international students to carry out their study in Norway. There are various stipends, which are offered by the private and non-profit organizations. The candidates avail these scholarships to meet their educational and other expenses.
